Clomiphene – An ovulatory stimulant during ovary dysfunction & PCOS.

Mechanism of action:
- An FDA-approved selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that helps to induce ovulation in females desiring to conceive. [Von Hofe J 2015]
- CC binds to the ER & depletes receptor concentrations.
- Estrogen negative feedback gets interrupted.
- FSH secretion increased leading to multiple follicle growth. [Adashi EY,1984]

Indications [Mbi Feh MK, 2024]:
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Ovulatory dysfunction in women
- Anovulatory
- Oligo-ovulatory infertility
- LPD (Luteal Phase Defect)
Dosage and Administration:
- Ovulation Induction [Davidson R et al.]: 1 tablet for 5 days (should start on day 5 of the menstrual cycle)
